  • BCYCNA Awarded “Certificate of Diversion” by Urban Impact

    Urban Impact Urban Impact is a business committed to environmental conservation and global responsibility. Last year the Richmond, BC-based company collected and diverted 30,000 Metric Tonnes of recyclable material from local landfills.

    They recently recognized that BCYCNA diverted 89 cubic yards (a quantity that would fill 44 full sized trucks!) away from landfill and into a recycling program. Which translates into around 13 tonnes of carbon emissions.

    Ma Murray Awards Gala BCYCNA has been hosting the Ma Murray Community Newspaper Awards for over 80 years. Dedicated to celebrating excellence amongst our member newspapers, the accolades recognize all aspects of the newspaper industry, including production, publishing, reporting, editing, advertising, photography, website design and community contribution.

  • Joyce Carlson, Publisher of Powell River Peak Wins BC Community Achievement Award

    Joyce CarlsonJoyce was one of 45 British Columbians honoured by the BC Achievement Foundations at their Community Achievements Awards. Premiere Gordon Campbell officiated the ceremony that was intended to celebrate the spirit, imagination, dedication and contribution of British Columbians to their community.

    “Each one of these award winners has made a lasting contribution to help all British Columbians by building stronger neighbourhoods, stronger communities and a stronger province,” said Premier Gordon Campbell. “Their example teaches us what we can accomplish when we work together and give of our time and energy to support one another.”

    As a committed community volunteer and the publisher of the Powell River Peak, Joyce’s vision has contributed to Powell River hosting many events and festivals that have broadened and developed the city’s outlook and progress. Joyce’s leadership can be seen in the 2007 Powell River Disability Games Society, Powell River Festival of the Performing Arts, Powell River Ayjoomixw Spirit of BC Community Committee, and the Powell River and District United Way.
